About Wilderness

Wilderness is an excellent vacation resort with magnificent beaches and many vantage points to view whales and dolphins. It is located on the slopes of the Outeniqua Mountains ranges in such an area of unrivaled beauty.

The character of Wilderness, with its natural abundance of lakes and rivers and inherent peace, perfect for beach vacations, was created in a small stone farmstead as early as the late 1800s. In the ancient farmhouse, a beach boarding house was built, and so started the culture of friendliness that has rendered this little coastal town renowned around the globe.

The romantic resort of Wilderness is located 15 kilometers east of George, between the Kaaimans River and the Goukamma Nature Reserve in the west and the Outeniqua Mountain ranges in the north and the Indian Ocean in the south. It is surrounded by the Outeniqua Mountains ranges and the Indian Ocean in the south. The wide expanses of beach, the serenity and tranquility, and the scarcity of windswept dunes and untamed, rough waters are all hallmarks of Wilderness.  The lengthy stretch of beach extends between the mouths of the Kaaimans and  Touw  Rivers, flanked by cliffs on the north side of which the forest fringe extends down to ocean level.

The tranquil lagoon (Touw River Estuary) and the Serpentine, which flows between the Touw River, Island Lake, and Rondevlei, are all visible from Wilderness. This is a popular waterskiing spot that draws visitors from all around the world. Hiking, bike riding, birding, whale viewing, hang- and paragliding, horseback riding, picturesque drives, day excursions, fishing, kayaking, and other water sports are all available in Wilderness.

Map of Africa, with its magnificent landscape of woods, lakes, mountains, and coastline, and Dolphin's Point, a great vantage point upon which to watch dolphins and whales, are both outstanding views. The Outeniqua Choo-Choo runs along the coast between George and Knysna, and the Kaaimans River Bridge is a popular location for photography, especially of the Outeniqua Choo-Choo.

The approximately 800-year-old Woodville Big Tree provides shady places with its enormous branches, making it a perfect picnic site. Take a stroll along the Pied Kingfisher Trail's boardwalk (which is also wheelchair accessible), home to a variety of birds. The winter climate is pleasant, with sunny days and temperatures seldom falling below 8 degrees Celsius. The average yearly rainfall is approximately 700 mm.
