About Wilderness
Wilderness is a popular holiday town along the N2 on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, South Africa, about 15 km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town. Its white sand beach with a total length of eight km and also the warm waters of the Indian Ocean make this fine holiday destination, amongst other things, a place to go for water sports fanatics.
The N2 national road separates Wilderness in two. While a small number of residences and lodges have been built in a dune region close to the beach, the business region and the remaining town are located alongside the freeway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land side boasts a rich flora in its forest areas, for example, ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and the Indian Ocean’s seawater also generate an appropriate environment for aquatic creatures, such as dolphins.
The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is located east of the town and stretches 28 km alongside the sea. All 230 animal species happen to be listed here, including 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book sea view places to stay in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
