About Wilderness
Wilderness is a popular getaway town along the N2 on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, South Africa, about 15 km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town. Its white sand beach, with an overall length of eight kilometres along with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, makes this fine holiday destination, among other things, a place to go for water sports fans.
The N2 national road separates Wilderness in two. While only a few houses and motels have been constructed in a dune region near the beach, the business region and the remaining town are located alongside motorway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land section features a rich flora within its forest areas, including ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and the Indian Ocean’s seawater also establishes a suited ecosystem for aquatic creatures, such as dolphins.
