About Wilderness
Wilderness is a prominent holiday getaway town along the N2 national highway on the Garden Route in South Africa, about Fifteen km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town’s location. Its white sand beach with a total length of eight kms and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean make Wilderness, amongst other things, a spot for aquatic sports enthusiasts.
The N2 national road splits Wilderness in two – while a small amount of homes and lodges have been built in a dune area near the seaside, the business region and the remaining town are located along the motorway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land side features a abundant flora in its forest areas, which include ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers along with the Indian Ocean’s seawater also generate a suitable habitat for water animals, including dolphins.
The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is situated east of the town and stretches 28 kilometers along the sea. Just about all 230 animal species have been registered here, including 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book pet friendly holiday accommodation in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
