About Wilderness

Wilderness is a popular holiday getaway town along the N2 national highway on the Garden Route in South Africa, about Fifteen km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town’s location. Its pristine sand beach with a total length of eight km along with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean make Wilderness, amongst other things, a place to go for aquatic sports lovers.

The N2 national road divides Wilderness in two. While a small number of houses and hotels have been built in a dune vicinity close to the seaside, the business section and the remaining portion of the town can be found over the motorway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land side possesses a rich flora within its forest areas, such as ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and the Indian Ocean’s seawater also establish an ideal environment for aquatic wildlife, including dolphins.

The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is positioned east of the town and stretches 28 kilometres alongside the sea. Just about all 230 animal species happen to be registered here, like 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book overnight guest houses in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
