About Wilderness
Wilderness is a popular getaway town along the N2 on the Garden Routein South Africa, about 15 km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town’s location. Its pristine sand beach with a overall length of eight kilometers along with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean help make Wilderness, amongst other things, a destination for aquatic sports lovers.
The N2 breaks Wilderness in two – while a small amount of houses and lodges have been constructed in a dune vicinity close to the beach, the business region and the rest of the town are located along the highway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land side features a abundant vegetation in its woodland areas, including ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and the Indian Ocean’s sea water also produce a suitable home for aquatic animals, such as dolphins.
The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is positioned east of the town and runs 28 kilometers along the sea. Just about all 230 animal species have been registered here, such as 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book self catering holiday accommodation in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
