About Wilderness
Wilderness is a renowned holiday getaway town along the N2 national highway on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, South Africa, about Fifteen km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town. Its pristine sand beach with a total length of eight km and also the warm waters of the Indian Ocean help to make this fine holiday destination, amongst other things, a place to go for aquatic sports fans.
The N2 divides Wilderness in two – while a small number of houses and hotels have been constructed in a dune section close to the beach, the business region and the rest of the town are located along the motorway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land section possesses abundant vegetation in its forest areas, like ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and the Indian Ocean’s seawater also creates an appropriate home for aquatic mammals, such as dolphins.
The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is positioned east of the town and runs 28 km along the sea. Just about all 230 animal species have been registered here, like 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book sea view hotels in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
