About George

George is a town within the Western Cape of South Africa, on the south side of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains, with around 157,400 residents.

George is situated the coastline about 300 km east of Cape Town on the famed Garden Route. George is the economic capital of the Garden Route. In the region, sightseeing opportunities just like the vast beaches of Herolds Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness, the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn and Knysna featuring a lovely lagoon, have been part of the Garden Route National Park since March 2009 .

The local forests with beautiful old yellowwood trees and other tree varieties, the gorgeous fynbos with many varieties of proteas , ericas and heaths and a large variety of fern varieties bring in travellers and holidaymakers who like the outdoors and scenery.

George is noted for its exceptional golf courses (you can find 3 unique 18-hole courses on the Fancourt estate on it’s own) plus the historic Montagu Pass over the Outeniqua Mountain (opened in 1847 ).
