About Wilderness

Wilderness is a renowned holiday getaway town along the N2 national highway on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, South Africa, about Fifteen km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town. Its white sand beach with a total length of eight km plus the warm waters of the Indian Ocean help to make this fine holiday destination, amongst other things, a spot for aquatic sports fans.

The N2 separates Wilderness in two – while some homes and lodges have been erected in a dune vicinity close to the seaside, the business section and the remaining town can be found alongside highway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land part features a rich flora within its forest areas, including ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and the Indian Ocean’s seawater also create a suitable environment for aquatic wildlife, such as dolphins.

The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is positioned east of the town and expands 28 kilometres along the sea. All 230 animal species have been registered here, which includes 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book overnight holiday accommodation in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
