George lies on the coast around 300 km east of Cape Town on the well-known Garden Route. George is the financial capital of the Garden Route. In the vicinity, attractions just like the large beaches of Herolds Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness, the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn and Knysna featuring a beautiful lagoon, have been part of the Garden Route National Park since March 2009 .
The indigenous woodlands with majestic old yellowwood trees and other tree species, the stunning fynbos with many varieties of proteas , ericas and heaths and a large variety of fern species lure tourists and holidaymakers who love the outdoors and scenery.
George is known for its superb golf courses (you can find 3 different 18-hole courses on the Fancourt estate on it’s own) and also the historic Montagu Pass over the Outeniqua Mountain (opened in 1847 ).
