About George

George is a city in the Western Cape of South Africa, on the south side of the amazing Outeniqua Mountains, with about 157,400 residents.

George is situated the sea-coast around 300 km east of Cape Town on the prominent Garden Route. George is the financial capital of the Garden Route. Locally, tourist attractions like the wide beaches of Herolds Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness, the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn and Knysna featuring a lovely lagoon, have been part of the Garden Route National Park since March 2009 .

The indigenous woodlands with beautiful old yellowwood trees along with other tree types, the attractive fynbos with dozens of species of proteas , ericas and heaths and a large variety of fern species captivate travellers and holidaymakers who enjoy nature and countryside.

George is famous for its outstanding golf courses (there are actually 3 distinct 18-hole courses on the Fancourt estate alone) and also the historic Montagu Pass over the Outeniqua Mountain (opened in 1847 ).
