About Wilderness

Wilderness is a renowned holiday town along the N2 national highway on the Garden Route in South Africa, about Fifteen km east of George and 450 km east of Cape Town. Its white sand beach with an overall length of eight km and also the warm waters of the Indian Ocean help to make Wilderness, amongst other things, a place to go for water sports enthusiasts.

The N2 national road divides Wilderness in two. While a small number of houses and hotels have been built in a dune region near the seaside, the business district and the remaining portion of the town are located along the freeway and lagoon. The lagoon’s mountainous land section boasts a rich flora within its forest areas, for example, ericas, ferns, milkwood trees, orchids and proteas. The freshwater of mountain rivers and also the Indian Ocean’s seawater also produce a suitable home for water mammals, such as dolphins.

The 2 612 hectare National Wilderness Park is positioned east of the town and expands 28 kilometres along the sea. Just about all 230 animal species are actually registered here, such as 79 of South Africa’s 95 waterfowl species. Book affordable accommodation in Wilderness with Garden Route Stays!
