About George
George is a town in the Western Cape of South Africa, on the south side of the spectacular Outeniqua Mountains, with roughly 157,400 inhabitants.
George is situated on the coastline roughly 300 km east of Cape Town on the widely known Garden Route. George is the economic capital of the Garden Route. Nearby, sightseeing opportunities, including the vast beaches of Herolds Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness, the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn and Knysna, featuring an exquisite lagoon, have been part of the Garden Route National Park since March 2009.
The local forests with spectacular old yellowwood trees and other tree types, the gorgeous fynbos with a large number of varieties of proteas, ericas and heaths and a large variety of fern species bring in vacation goers and holidaymakers who like nature and the countryside.
George is recognised for its fantastic golf courses (you will find three unique 18-hole courses on the Fancourt estate) and the historic Montagu Pass over the Outeniqua Mountains (opened in 1847 ).
