About George
George is a city in the Western Cape of South Africa, about the south side of the dazzling Outeniqua Mountains, with around 157,400 residents.
George lies on the sea-coast about 300 km east of Cape Town on the widely known Garden Route. George is the financial capital of the Garden Route. In the area, tourist attractions for example, the wide beaches of Herolds Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness, the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn and Knysna with its exquisite lagoon, have been part of the Garden Route National Park since March 2009 .
The indigenous forests with majestic old yellowwood trees and also other tree types, the stunning fynbos with lots of species of proteas , ericas and heaths and a large variety of fern species catch the attention of travelers and holidaymakers who love nature and countryside.
George is recognised for its fantastic golf courses (you’ll find 3 different 18-hole courses on the Fancourt estate on it’s own) along with the historic Montagu Pass over the Outeniqua Mountain (opened in 1847 ).
