About George
George is a city in the Western Cape of South Africa, about the south side of the spectacular Outeniqua Mountains, with about 157,400 inhabitants.
George is situated on the sea coast roughly 300 km east of Cape Town on the famed Garden Route. George is the financial capital of the Garden Route. In the vicinity, sightseeing attractions, for example, the vast beaches of Herolds Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness, the ostrich town of Oudtshoorn and Knysna with its incredible lagoon, have been part of the Garden Route National Park since March 2009.
The native woodlands with regal old yellowwood trees and other tree species, the beautiful fynbos with a large number of species of proteas, ericas and heaths and wide fern varieties captivate vacationers and holidaymakers who enjoy nature and scenery.
George is famous for its excellent golf courses (there are 3 unique 18-hole courses on the Fancourt estate alone) plus the historic Montagu Pass over the Outeniqua Mountains (opened in 1847 ).
